Hey there, fellow preceptors! I have a strategy that may help streamline your day and boost student learning. Consider having your students scribe for you!

Double Duty with Scribing:

Student scribes can be a fantastic asset. Here's why:

• Legal and Efficient: According to 2020 CMS guidelines, students can draft entire patient notes, including history and physicals. You, as the preceptor, then review, confirm findings, and sign off. This approach is legal at most facilities because it follows CMS guidelines. Check with your facility to confirm specific policies.
• Enhanced Learning: Scribing allows students to actively participate in patient interactions and practice documentation skills in a real-world setting.
• Improved Workflow: By taking care of note-taking, students can free up preceptor time for focusing on patient care, teaching, and other crucial tasks.

Beyond Time-Saving:

Even if you already use a dictation service like FreedAI or DeepScribe, consider incorporating student scribes as well. Here's the bonus:

• Comparative Learning: Analyze both the student-scribed note and the dictation software output. This can highlight areas for improvement in both writing styles and software accuracy.
